Our Mission

The mission of BLKINMOTION is to create intentional communal space centering Black queer and trans joy, wellness, and culture. Black queer and trans people have always been the renaissance. Our audience are the artists, activists, and architects of culture.

Founded in Oakland, the mecca of black global movements, and in the Greater Bay Area, the center of international tech innovation - our audience has inherently and historically created the change that has resounded around the world, and they continue to do so.

We believe that celebration and community are revolutionary, and in a world that devalues our existence, we must no longer choose to survive but to thrive.

Our Values

  • I am Because we are (Ubuntu). We recognize the interconnection between us all and vow to keep an open, abolitionist mindset for the unification of our community.

  • We honor and center the sacredness of Black space and amplify the longevity of healing, freedom, and expression as Black, Queer, & Trans family. Who needs a seat at the table when we create our own.

  • Black joy is a radical act. We give due space to joy, laughter, humor, and gratitude.

  • As we are based on Ohlone land, we honor and pay respects to the spirit that lives on in the indigenous communities who first cared for this land. We continue to care for this land by paying respects, keeping it clean, and maintaining its natural state.

  • We practice consent, communication, and collective safety. As a community, we work together to ensure that we are safe. This is a radically, exclusive black space. We ask that this is also respected by our allies.

  • Self & collective CARE- we practice patience, forgiveness, and love with ourselves and each other. As we care for ourselves we show up for one another so we can be our full selves.

How to Become a Member

So, there’s the core collective that runs BLKINMOTION, then we have a membership. Our membership helps us to keep our events exclusive to our audience - black queer and/or trans folks. Once a member, create your profile to have access to exclusive content, membership benefits, and connect to other Black Queer and Trans folks!

In order to become a member you have to respond with a confident ‘YES’ to these following questions:

1 - Do you self-identify as black?

2 - Do you self-identify as LGBTQIA+/queer?

3 - Are you interested in connecting & growing with Black queer and/or trans community?
